KUNG FU PANDA: Wow is there a lot going on here. Dreamworks Animation really came into it’s own on this pic as it looks like a simple kid pic, but damn, if it doesn’t address the typical boomer addressing the shortcomings in his life and all the what might have beens. Can the szhlub panda break out of the restaurant business and become a kung fu master? What does he have to give up? What will he gain? Handled with much more subtly and aplomb that you would expect from Jack Black given as how we know him from his persona, the boy really delivers in the clutch. In the classic mode of when animation was animation, this pic plays with and manipulates your emotions with the best of them. Almost something that can be enjoyed more by adults than kids, this is clearly a pic that you will watch repeatedly and enjoy over and over. A high water mark for contemporary animation, even if it wasn’t made by Pixar. Included in packages at some retailers is “Tales of the Furious Five”, a continuation of sorts of what happens with the characters in the pic.
