DVD SUPPLEMENT
CBS PARAMOUNT VIDEO
GOMER PYLE USMC The Final Season:  By the end of this show’s line, Jim Nabors and Frank Sutton had become one of the great comedy teams of all time, even if it was kind of unnoticed, even though this show was a long running hit.  They had sharpened their timing on the pyle-shazaam-gollee thing so well that it was a springboard for other hijinx.  Among the 30 epis on this set are two of the show’s classics, one with Allen Melvin inducing Gomer to make Sgt. Carter go insane.  One of TV’s ultimate fish out of water shows, this is another classic sitcom that has finished it’s DVD run and come home forever, without commercials and breaks.  While it’s certainly fun from another time and place, it’s still good fun nonetheless.

MOD SQUAD season 2 vol 1:  The former Mrs. Quincy Jones was all too under rated as an actress as many people don’t seem to remember that this was a springboard to a lot of awards for Peggy Lipton.  Do you think part of Obama winning this week was that Lincoln Hayes was most of America’s introduction to an angry black man and they see Obama as Hayes all grown up and gone mainstream?  Look, it was produced by Aaron Spelling and he knew how to mess with media consumers mind’s for several generations.  In this half season batch of epis, the hipsters lose their car amid some great lines and the 60s hip comes to middle America remains a hoot.  Only 13 epis in the batch but  it stands up as great paperback video.

WARNER HOME VIDEO
FRED CLAUS:  There must have been some Vince Vaughan backlash in the air at the time because he certainly acquits himself as Santa’s jack off brother Fred in this off center holiday pic that’s firmly in the tradition of holiday from hell with the family pics.  Geared for hipsters to watch comfortably with kids, this nutty outing certainly deserves a second look when you’re standing in front  of your local Red Box next week wondering which new release to check out.  It’s hipster humor on the lite side, but you will get your yuks on.

SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS 2:  We were surprised by “Now and Then”, a chick pic in the 90s that covered ground sort of like this.  With a bunch of tv friendly faces as the young ladies growing into womanhood, this tweeny chick pic is like a “Sex in the City” prequel  where the girls knew each other as kids.  This ain’t our cup of tea, but it sets a nice set of alternative role models in play for the age group this is aimed at that could use another, less stressful, point of view every so often.
