BOB DYLAN/Tell Tale Signs Rare and Unreleased 1989-2008-Bootleg Series V. 8: Certainly not as relavatory as past entries in this series or the actual boots themselves, the purpose of this set must have been someone Legacy having a puckish sense of humor and wanting to make the kind of ‘new’ Dylan album that would make John Hammond smile. Unreleased and alternative versions from recent albums, this set is aimed at the fan that stopped thinking the new Dylan album was an event around the time of “Blood on the Tracks” as these demos and sketches are right in the pocket of the original albums giving new cast to recent songs making them very fresh to old ears. Presenting new stuff for old ears answers the question of why we were never able to pinpoint a new Dylan 40 years ago, Dylan always was the new Dylan. An anomaly that should have been a Starbucks release.

THE THREE STOOGES/Classic Shorts & Swing Parade: The shorts here have really made the rounds as they are some of the few that have slipped into public domain, but here they are colorized and the feature “Swing Parade” is added to the package. A nice programmer for Stooge fans about the dirty side of the nightlife world, it’s also been restored and colorized and the over all proceedings are hosted by Mike Nelson putting a new branding effect into the mix. Stooge fans will check it out just to see who had bit parts early in their careers.

LITTLE RASCALS In Color: Best of Our Gang/Superstars of Our Gang: In the shadow of the complete Little Rascals box on deck for the holidays, here comes a nice quicky for fans that don’t want to pop large. There’s only 10 episodes and some of the classics aren’t around, but there’s stuff with Petey and Jackie stealing the show, and there’s some decent Miss Crabtree action as well. There’s oddball bonus features that might have only been seen by the hard core fan and are a nice addition to any Rascal library. Certainly charming for the price.

THE CULT OF CARTMAN Revelations: If you’ve been collecting the full season sets, is the specter of getting some Cartman’s that haven’t been on disc yet enough to get you to pop for this Cartman’s greatest hits disc? How about the cool packaging? How about a fat dose of uncut Cartman? If you respect his authoriti , you might just be cult material. Everybody is going to have their own view of what is essential Cartman, but there’s enough cartoons here on board that are sure to get a total consensus. Add to that some original material and you have the kind of package fans of the big boned will certainly hint they want for Christmas. Yep, it’s most of all the Cartman you would want gathered all in one place at one time.

BEVERLY HILLBILLIES Official Second Season: With all of the first season and half of the second season having lapsed into public domain, Paramount gets props for spiffing up the complete second season and getting the series off to a good roll under their banner. All 36 episodes of the second season are now ready to watch as Paul Henning intended them, with the real music and everything. Prime Clampett from when they ruled the airwaves, it’s worth getting this and letting your Tivo move on to something else rather than fill up the memory with all those truncated ME-TV episodes. This is hysterical stuff that’s part of our cultural DNA.

BROTHERHOOD Second Season: It’s been a while between season packages so if you don’t follow this on cable and are a fan, you might need a refresher before picking up the thread. An Irish take on cops and robbers, the 10 episodes that made up the season are here and ready to roll. With brothers on opposite side s of the crime fence, the clashes come a-plenty as mobsters and politicians break bread at the end of the day and give you all the family drama you could want this side of Tennessee Williams. Edgier than season one, while the Sopranos are off having some gabbagoul thinking about whether to tackle a movie or not, this is the crime family to beat.
