FANATIC PROMOTION
CAW! CAW!/Wait Outside:  Chicago issues it’s next sound of the suburbs as this trio that’s been pals since high school, morphing into various skins between then and now, mix noize, pop and teen angst into a brew that tells the world there’s more going on in Chicago these days than Fall Out Boy and country insurgents.  Pissed off kids everywhere can easily make this the soundtrack to the John Hughes movie of their lives.

GO MEDIA
CISSOKO + GOETZE/Sira:  Solo dulcimer sets were always a tough sell in the heart of the new age years and this set starts out sounding like it’s going to go into that territory.  But the difference is that this is a duet between a singing kora player and a trumpet player.  The result is a magical date gently powered by the interplay of these two bringing their world jazz vision to what would have been new age a decade ago.  Adults looking for that real audio getaway are well advised to check this left field set out with a wide open ear and let the enchantment flow.

THE KLEZ DISPENSERS/Say You’ll Understand:  Here’s a Klezmer crew that’s nothing like what you’ve come to expect from forays into Klez.  A bunch of jazzbos at their core, they dig into hokum and swing styles along with the Yiddish dance music for their own nutty world/fusion music.  Boomers that grew up on the classic cartoons when they weren’t too far removed from their WWII makings will feel a kinship to this music and it’s aural equivalent of comfort food.  These players know how to play and they stir up a good time in any language, and that’s all that matters.  A dandy wild ride well worth checking out.

DECEPTION:  With home theaters getting larger and larger, the small screen isn’t what it used to be and that will be an interesting test of the legs on this pic.  A classic popcorn pic that doesn’t deliver in theaters but has long legs at home, this pulp fiction/noir for MTV attention spans is a tasty, little thriller with pretty people as it revolves around the lives of rich and powerful New Yorkers who all belong to an anonymous sex club that facilitates one nighters with no strings—until two members seem to be falling in love and a possible murder ensues!  (insert gasp here)  People that like to solve the mystery ahead of time rather than go along for the ride will be the ones that bitch here but people that want to see a commercial director take his first turn at features and show what he’s learned will enjoy the suspense and clandestine activities among the financial set (headlines of tomorrow?).  A proverbial “if you liked “Body Heat” and “Basic Instinct”…

PATHOLOGY:  This gore fest is the kind of pic that will leave an opinion in the mouth of anyone who can tough it out through this rough pic.  A bunch of medical students use their mortuary skills to commit murders of undesirables and the blood and guts come thick and fast in what’s supposed to be a medical/crime thriller but is going to be too intense for the average CSI fan.  It actually hits it’s target pretty well, but if you can’t stand the blood, you should get out of the morgue.
