TOM LELLIS-TONINHO HORTA/Tonight: Lellis has flown under the radar like a Brazilian loving Mark Murphy for way too long. Here he hooks up with a Brazilian guitar hitter for a highly tasty world/jazz confection that’s sweet without rotting your teeth. Interesting set card and solid playing all come together for a real winner of an adult music interlude. Check it out.

SIX DEGREES
ISSA BAGAYOGO/Mali Koura: The Mali success story continue on a roll after a 4 year woodshedding that finds him taking the traditional Mali sounds and moving them further into the 21st Century. Adding jazz to the blended vibe where it wasn’t before, Bagayogo is taking the local music out of the wilderness and moving it into the space age, with digital bravado. He’s not making strictly NPR world beat anymore. College kids, world beaters and others looking for out sounds will find a sympathetic fellow traveler on board here.

SPEAK EASY PR
TANYATAGAQ/Auk: An Inuit throat singer, if you got into Bjork, this side kick of hers is certainly going to float your boat. Hanging with up market cats like Kronos Quartet, she has been described as ‘Edith Piaf on something’ and that says it all for us. Crazy wild trance and beyond of those moments when you want to go off the deep end, but really not too far.

SUBURBAN NOIZE
(HED)P.E./DIY Guys: In a rousing return to the punk ethic, this crowd leaves it all behind to make the music they want, when they want, how they want for the fans they want, and the music is just as in your face as the attitude. Shrugging off the yoke of major label oppression, the band delivers crunch with no concern other than what they want to hear in suburban, hormone crazed bedrooms across the land. A known quantity in the realm, this is what you get when the man isn’t around to interfere. Wild.

WORLD VILLAGE
KAYHAN KALHOR & BROOKLYN RIDER/Silent City: And now for something completely different, a bunch of players that met in the course of Yo Yo Ma sessions coming together on their own for a world fusion that brings Persian jazz/world to the fore. Way different from where previous world beaters like Paul Horn would take you as they traveled through the souks, this spunky set is one of those old/new mix ups that blow your ears wide open, particularly when fueled by the passion of the players. Certainly a contender for top recognition as a classical crossover date, the possibilities here are endless and the music recombines across the suites for a wild ride.
