KINGSTON TRIO STORE
BOB SHANE/The World Needs a Melody:  Well, the Hawaiian Elvis, the cat Sinatra gave props to, the guy that powered one of Kingston Trio’s signature songs finally gets around to making a solo album at 74, just in time for KT’s 50th or so anni.  With some tracks from the trunk, a John Stewart cover, an amped up remake and other treats, one of the golden voices of the original folk years comes back to the front line with no dust on him.  A real treat for fans old and new, Shane delivers, retired or not.  A real set for folk fans that want to hear how it really gets done.

DVD SUPPLEMENT
WARNER HOME VIDEO
MAMA’S BOY:  Hollywood acknowledges the slacker/boomerangers with this pic about Diane Keaton’s son who doesn’t want to leave home at 29 and has to deal with momma’s new boy friend wanting him out of the way.  The three lead talents have enough acting chops to make this set up entertainment come across as an entertainment rather than a paycheck grab.  Other than that, it’s a pleasant time filling comedy about contemporary mores in the non-nuclear, dysfunctional family.

BUCKET LIST:  The wise cracking learer and the magic Negro team up for a look at what happens as two old times are faced with the finale instead of a long, slow decline.  Now we know what happens when Bill and Ted face Alzheimer’s.  A buddy pic in the tradition of “Going in Style”, there’s plenty of talent on board to make it work on all fronts.  As long as you come prepared to not take it too seriously and root for the old timers looking for one last thrill ride, a good time can be had by all.

FUNNY GAMES:  In which we find Hollywood having remakes made by the guy that made it in the first place.  A claustrophobic pic about thugs and the havoc they bring on a family, this is tough to watch film making at it hard hitting best.  Gritty and tough, this pic will put you thought a real emotional roller coaster by the time it gets done with you.
