SIX DEGREES
GAUDI + NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN/Dub Qawwali Remixes: Digital only taste of remixes from three of the tracks from the recent set where these two mixed it up across time a touch. Fans of the exotic might want to fire up the ol Itunes and check it out further.

PACIFIKA/Asuncion: Canuck disco dollies have to grow up and 20 years later, with acting chops under their belts, they hook up with some eclectic players to join forces for an eclectic trio with hippie/world beat sensibilities that sounds like the house band at some real Mediterranean café that hasn’t been discovered and trashed by soccer moms. Wonderfully fun stuff that has adult party music stamped all over it that should be broken out anytime good times are needed.

JEF STOTT/Saracen: I think this is what was only hinted at in “Midnight at the Oasis”. Stott has been bubbling under, this is his first solo set and he’s ready to break out. Heady enough to turn a trailer park into a sexy Arabian night, Stott’s multiculti fusion genre and electronics gives this a zest that’s completely infectious. It just makes you want to break out the babaganoush, spread it on each other and let the good times roll. Uh, try it, you’ll like it.

OJOS DE BRUJO/Techari Live: Latin Grammy winners show what they have live on this set recorded on the last night of their last tour. Hard-hitting and contemporary world fusion set that finds them simply blowing the roof off the sucker. Recorded on their home turf in Barcelona, the crew delivers for the hometown crowd and fireworks are enjoyed by all. A solid romp any committed world beater will not be able to deny.

SONANTES: When Starbucks doesn’t go the distance for you, it’s time to take matters into your own hands and try a new route. The label plunks CeU into an ad hoc Brazilian super group in which the chops and guests fly with such fervor, who can keep track? Certainly not your father’s samba, this up to the minute rouser let’s you know what you’re missing by not hanging out on the streets of Sao Paulo digging the local sounds. Tasty to the max, this is the kind of date that can easily draw the recalcitrant into the world beat tent, and finally sample and enjoy the pleasures of the vocalist CeU.
