MASSIVE MUSIC
THE FABRIC/Man vs. Prototype:  Ah, the prism of time.  Retro 80’s hair band electronica as reproduced with fond recollections letting the excess and jive fall by the wayside.  An electronic duo completes their sound hooking up with a like minded producer that brings the vision home.  Since those that were just long enough in the tooth when this originally came along never figured there would be nostalgia for it, it just proves that everyone is an old fogey to someone.  If you liked the 80’s, why shouldn’t you have a fondness for their return as well, especially when it falls in the pocket.

JAN SEIDEN/Memory of Time:  Do you care that this is the first Anasazi flute recording by a woman or do you care that this Native American flute goddess knows her stuff and makes a holistic set that you don’t have to be on the massage table to listen to?  A player with the chops to leave blown minds in her wake as she continues to charm the world with her work, this set seems like it’s for hippies but to think that proves you aren’t really listening.   Not only a master work of healing/spiritual/indigenous music, it’s the kind of thing that brings attention to the whole genre in a sterling way.

TIM MILLER/Adelaide:  When a folkie that’s really indie comes to the attention of MTV, you know the cat must have something on the ball that really speaks to people.  With a boat load of A list talent working behind the glass to bring this home, Miller refines the whole singer/songwriter thing and pulls it the 180 away from mush mouth that it needed need pulling from.  Quite simply, this is the place to be if your looking for an organic listening experience that’ll really take you some place special.

TWO FOR THE SHOW MEDIA
ARTURO O’FARILL & the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra/Song for Chico:  In which we find the apple certainly don’t fall far from the tree, and in some instances, it shouldn’t.  Chico’s kid steps up, as he’s done his whole career anyway, and delivers the Latin jazz goods in the style of his father with an eye toward the future.  A kick ass Latin big band with more than enough brass to spare, this crew takes you back to the good old days when jazz was pushing borders as well as boundaries and the parties went on all night.  Highly tasty stuff that makes work sound like play.
200804 (Zoho)

DAFNIS PRIETO SEXTET/Taking the Soul for a Walk:  This hard hitting Cuban drummer makes it his business to take you around the world with a ton of stops along the way.  Playing with a fire from all over the map, he does it in a cohesive enough way that this doesn’t sound like a resume.  With enough on the ball to keep you involved in an all original program by a cat you probably haven’t heard of yet outside New York, the passion harks back to an earlier generation but the fire is all stuff on the horizon inflamed.  A wild ear opening date with some cutting edge cats lending a hand, this is forward thinking jazz date for the cutting edge.
