GORGEOUS PR
COLLIN HERRING/Past Life Crashing: Hesu Christo!!!! Alt.country meets Austin meets emo as this alt.country darling comes out of his self imposed cave with a set about the last few years of his life that have included 2 stints in rehab (hey, Lindsay, you slacker, catch up), marriage and divorce and other drama that just makes you go ‘alright already’. Self absorbed or introspective? I guess it depends on what you see when you look in the mirror. Alt.country that doesn’t run out of attitude no matter how much it dances the 12 step.
REAL MUSIC
THIERRY DAVID/Zen World: Well guys, this record is the proof in the pudding that yoga and all that stuff is chick stuff. Part of the set up for this record is that it’s steeped in it’s own femininity. Program it on your girl friend’s Ipod the next time an important game is on and get her a gift certificate for a pedicure. You’ll be a hero without even trying, she’s be relaxed…who knows. By the way, David is a real pro at this ambient/sonic getaway/spa music thing. With vocal coloration instead of drippy electronic stuff, this is a warm set that’s sure to get under her skin.

SAYAMA/Harmony: Today’s 20 something accountant likes to smoke dope while she’s getting a pedicure and thinking about your taxes while she contemplates how to follow that divorce lawyer in to Playboy. This is the soundtrack for the story of her life. Do you know her? Would you like to know her? Are you her? Upscale mind melt music for the girl in your life that’s still two years away from getting on the declutter bandwagon.

UNIVERSAL MUSIC ENTERPRISES
EELS/Meet the Eels-Essential Eels V. 1 1996-2006: They kick it off with “Novocaine for the Soul” and give up the pomo goods from there. This twofer retrospective differs from what would have passed for a deluxe edition by this second disc being the groups vids. Since their canon wasn’t that deep, this is a fine, well rounded journey through the past for fans.

AUDIOBOOK SUPPLEMENT
HARPER AUDIO
MICHAEL KODAS (read by Holter Graham)/High Crimes: I can’t help it, non-fiction like this makes me laugh. Some hapless mook who thinks his idea of a good time is to climb Mt. Everest embarks on his mission only to find the Himalayas are loaded with thieves, prostitutes, backstabbers and the rest of the stuff of society he was trying to get away from. That’s why I go to Vegas. Who wants to get away from this? And why deal with all that hardship just to find it? And the whores on the side of Everest can’t possibly be as hot as the ones in Vegas. And with supply and demand being what it is, they probably don’t even try as hard. So then he comes home to write a ‘shocking expose’. Help me, coffee is flying out my nostrils. Everest in the age of greed; what were you expecting? Got a cynical, dark pomo sense of humor? Slip on the headphones and get ready for a (hahahahahahaha) shock.

LAUREN GROLL (read by Nicole Roberts)/Monsters of Templeton: Chick lit for those that still have a sense of shock about them as the tale unfolds about how a disaffected young adult returns to her ancestral home only to be greeted by her 12 stepped out former hippie mom who finally lets her in on just how deep her bastardy runs and such begins the unraveling of the town’s secrets which seems to be centered around this family and their secrets. With a ghost story patina, this Victorian/gothic sturm and drangarama is a must for anyone that loves to hear a juicy soap opera Did we forget to mention the monsters under the bed as well?
