MISSING MOONLIGHTERS/Live-Studio Closet Tapes: Slipping around behind Commander Cody’s back will get you sharing the spotlight with some high profile pals and production by Nick Lowe. Of course, you’ll still be a cult figure, but you can also figure on some killer music. Bill Kirchen and pals that range from hands from Emmylou Harris to Iggy Pop gather round the mic and finally air out some sides that have been in hiding too long. Good time music that defies classification as well as inclusion into free form formats, it’s fun stuff for boomers or those who wish they were there the first time. Certainly a dream bar band collection, this stew is savory and you’re sure to want seconds.

TRAVIS SULLIVAN’S BJORKESTRA/Enjoy: Kind of funny to think that Bjork has been around long enough and become establishment enough to merit roll off projects, but here we are. The nice thing is that this isn’t a cheesy one. The funny thing is that it’s a Bjork album that’s not really for Bjork fans. Finding the jazz in her music and having it fronted by an accessible vocalist that really has the goods, this jazz orchestra take on Bjork puts everything in a whole new light, far away from alt.90s vibes. Anyone with a taste for anything quirky will dig this no matter what their bent, but left leaning jazzbos are sure to get the most out of this visionary set.
FORBIDDEN BROADWAY Rude Awakening 25th Anniversary cast recording: The loving puncture of Broadway that started as a goof now has 25 years of satire under it’s belt and it serves it up here once again. Koshering the sacred cows, musical theater gets a fun skewering with stuff that’s going to get the Broadway fan snickering yet again. Fun stuff if you have that show music appreciation.

PARAMOUNT HOME VIDEO
MARGO AT THE WEDDING: Tennessee Williams meets Eugene O’Neill in a Texas death match of family dysfunction of Woody Allen proportions. This dramedy is right up your alley if you come from a supremely dysfunctional family of jerks or if you really want to see Nicole Kidman get her rocks off sinking her teeth into as supreme a bitch as her acting chops will let her play. A tough pic to watch if you don’t have a taste for sturm and drang, this is a dramedy for the kind of people that used to contemplate gargling with razor blades to early Leonard Cohen albums.
BEST OF COMEDY CENTRAL PRESENTS UNCENSORED: Three hours, 8 comics, lots of laughs. Politics, family comics, Dane Cook, dead guys and Mencia, there’s a lot of laughs from a lot of quadrants of contemporary humor. Smart omnibus collection that gives you what you came for.
