COLLECTORS CHOICE (www.ccmusic.com)
REX ALLEN JR/Ridin High:  30 years ago, this son of the Sons of the Pioneers kicked off his own country career in a nice way in the pre-crossover days of the late 70s.  Showing his roots as a legacy but coming in with something that could compete with anything the countrypolitan factory was turning out in those days, Allen Jr got himself  out of the gate in fine fashion.  Certainly a country vocal date that has worn well.

CROWS FEET PRODUCTIONS
RICKY GENE HALL & the Goods:  He might seem like a newbie but he’s paid his dues playing with country acts in the back 40 of their careers as well as kicking it out with Bobby Rush, Honeyboy Edwards and others blues vets.  He checks in here with a solid white boy blues trio that isn’t deep on going for affection.  Simply snappy, no frills but long on vibes solid work that will give you that roadhouse feeling.

LORI HEHR PUBLIC RELATIONS
MORGLBL/Grotesk:  Regrouping after a long lay off, the power trio is back looking like dorks but shredding like mammyjammas.  With the proper mix of jazz and metal that picks up where they left off almost a decade ago, this guitar hero crew is right there making noize in the underground that will be heard by shred fans cruising the magma.  Hot stuff that rocks the genre.

SO MUCH MOORE
LISA O‘KANE/It Don’t Hurt:  It’s not the same sound but it is the same fury.  With Lucinda Williams’ first two albums, you knew you were on to something.  Then her Rough Trade album came out and pow!  Same trajectory with O’Kane.  Her first two sets were nothing to sneeze at, but this one really connects.  From humble beginnings in Nowhere, USA to an international following that is just under the radar but out there, she’s come a long way and the new songs show it.  A tasty, solid set that comes from the folk/country base but goes into it’s own space from there.  Be sure to check it out.

TWO FOR THE SHOW MEDIA
KEITH JAVORS/Free Project:  Javors walks the line between educator and player but this time around he comes down firmly on the side of being a first class player.  The piano man works on improvs with a cutting edge Michigan music crew on a set you can certainly call post-bop but will be at a loss to easily tag beyond that.  Creative and expressive throughout, Javors has played with a wide ranging bunch of first class jazzbos and he’s picked up something from each of them that drives toward the sum total here.  A ear opening set creative music fans are sure to dig.
