BUENA VISTA HOME ENTERTAINMENT
JUNGLE BOOK 40th Anniversary Platinum Edition: One of those total classics that’s right for kids of all ages, this was the last hands on cartoon that Disney himself worked on, and what a grand finale it was. Now in it’s 40th anni edition, this killer cartoon based on Rudyard Kipling’s writings has been spiffed up and expanded making previous editions in need of updating. With a double disc treatment that unleashed crazy extras like a character that got dumped from the final version and more, as well as upgrading the master and the look, this set offers you anything but the bare necessities. Available for a limited time, this amazing bit of craftsmanship belongs in any well stocked permanent DVD collection as you will watch it more than once. The music, the animation, the vibe it’s all glorious. If you’re one of the few that isn’t acquainted with this classic, now is certainly the time to check it out.

BROTHERS & SISTERS Complete First Season: Fresh from Sally Field’s Emmy win, this new take on family life is a far cry from “Father Knows Best”. A prime time soap opera in the grandest prime time tv sense, this sprawling saga of a family dealing with the surprises that come in the after math of the patriarch dying is loaded with the twists and turns that anyone from a dysfunctional family that keeps ignoring the 800 pound elephant in the living room will relate to and enjoy if for no other reason than seeing it’s not just them. With an unaired episode on board, the people that gave you “30something” are mining their familiar groove with a new, contemporary bent. TiVO challenged viewers can sit back and take the whole thing in at once like a novel, fans can backtrack at their leisure. A solid entry in the tv/dvd genre.

GREY’S ANATOMY season three seriously extended: There certainly was a reason why this was the #1 DVD seller in it’s initial week of release. It’s the break out show of recent times and since it was shifted to a Thursday night time slot, it’s probably put a dent in Thursday nights as an offbeat party night, or at least gotten the bar hopping started later. The successor to “Sex in the City” as a distaff fave, this hospital drama loaded with dysfunctional couples in action and inaction has really struck a nerve. Several episodes have been extended to make this more than just a rote purchase giving fans that extra something. Checking in with a near 20 hour running time, season collections like this are replacing books on book shelves for obvious reasons. A first class set of chick lit for the eyes as it’s loaded with upheaval, emotional duplicity, sabotage and tensions from real life controversies affecting the cast. If you like contemporary drama, this is the motherlode, seriously!
