DOUG SPARTZ/The One Who’s Leavin’: Old guy with a bunch of cool, left of center Americana pals bounces back from a heart attack with a new set that covers the water front from his new stuff to a few tips of the cap to his old days over 40 years ago. With a couple of well chosen covers he brings something new to them as a side thing, this is mostly Spartz showing what he can do, and what he can do is pretty good. Chalk up another one for one for old guys not ready to be put out to pasture yet.

SHOWGIRLS Fully Exposed Edition: A break out version of the disc that came with the box set, almost three years ago to the day of the release of this disc, the “Easy Rider” of the Gen Y set is still one of the best bad movies ever made. Originally supposed to be a big budget adult pic, it sunk the careers of everyone involved and proved that playing a fresh faced tv teen doesn’t mean it doesn’t hide the heart of an ambitious actress that would be immortalized fully nude for the better part of the pic for only a $100,000 salary. With over the top performances from everyone, including vid faves like Gina Gershon and Robert Davi, this third go round for this camp classic deserves to bring more people into the tent. We like it more as time goes on and we keep finding more and more fun cheesy stuff within it.

PARAMOUNT
ZODIAC: Loosely based on the real story of the Zodiac Killer, this is a well crafted pic from a director that knows how to push the crime/suspense button in popcorn pics like a pro. A great vid for crime pic fans, the cast turns in a sharp performance as it follows the path of obsession on both sides of the law. You know it’s commercial and you know it’s only a movie, but it keeps you on the edge of your seat and makes you want to spread the word. Well worth checking out.

RESIDENT EVIL-RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE: Chicks with guns is always a proven winner, zombies do quite well and comic book adaptations do real well when a hottie like Milla Jovovich is the chick with the gun. Putting the two pics together in one package as a sci-fi/horror double feature that would make Comic Book Guy and his legion of acolytes fall in line, Jovovich furthers her action heroine franchises as she moves from being a zombie fighter to an elite genetic mutant fighting zombies and readies you for the third installment that’s on tap and bridged her by the Jovo herself. Delightful fun for genre fans that will have a great time picking apart the fine points in on line discussion groups after they watch these both in slo-mo. Hey, this stuff is critic proof, if you dig this kind of thing, dig in.
