ADRENALINE
THE SIMPSONS MOVIE/soundtrack: This set might confound Simpsons fans. It’s a real soundtrack album. With Hans Zimmer at the wheel, the cartoony bounce of Alf Clausen has been replaced by stuff that would be at home on a John Willams record. It’s a great piece of instrumental work that might mean more to cleffer fans than Simpsons’ fans.

FLOWER POWER/various: There’s a bunch of summer of love/Monterrey collections out now, but this ten cd set is pretty much the grand daddy of them all. With a few exceptions that fall outside the generally accepted definition of the 60s (1967-1972) like Alice Cooper, Carly Simon, Jim Croce and a few others, this omnibus of over 170 songs is much more than the cool collection you want to load on your Ipod. With so much good stuff, there’s a few period pieces that are sure to make you wince, but with something like this, if you’re in for a penny, you’re in for a pound. Very seriously, hours of great nostalgia for those who were those or those who wish they were. Whether you want to be “Groovin’”, checking the “Time of the Season”, being “Born to be Wild”, enjoying the “Age of Aquarius” or simply admitting you like the AM and FM hits of 1967, this is more than something for everyone. If you aren’t sure which era collection to lay your money down on, go with this one. It costs more, but it’s really worth it when it comes to rounding up all the high spots from the times.

KIRAN AHLUWALIA/Wanderlust: Here’s a world beat set that takes no prisoners. A fusion of Indian poetry and Fado with a bunch of genre stars on board, Ahluwalia takes you to places you might have only heard in dreams. A deep, world beat outing that was made for serious listening as opposed to brunch and lite yuppie pursuits, it’s not a gloom and doom recording, but it’s not a wine and cheese recording either. Smart stuff for international and wide ranging tastes looking for some pure music that will really speak to them.

ROBERT B. PARKER/Spare Change: Parker detours into his Sunny Randall series as the heroine finds herself in the cross hairs as a long dormant murderer with a hard on against her father resurfaces. Pop enlists his daughter’s help and both realize too late that the hunter is becoming the game. You can always count on Parker to only let the bad guys have it and I won’t tell you the rest other than it’s a Parkerific good read to hear.
