DVD SUPPLEMENT
PARAMOUNT HOME VIDEO
COMING TO AMERICA: I think this got slagged in it’s initial release because people just couldn’t accept Eddie Murphy making an entertaining movie/movie after a streak of incandescent performances. What’s the worst thing you can say about this pic? It’s a Steve Martin programmer in black face? A fun pic to sit back with some popcorn and a sense of humor, this is nothing like the eggs Murphy would later lay and be deservingly slagged. A fun urban take on “The Prince and the Pauper”, enjoy a revamped classic and have a laugh.

NORBIT: Accept it. Eddie Murphy is a middle aged man that has a good feeling for movie/movie comedy. He ain’t a kid anymore and he’ll never be who he was again, but he’s not chopped liver either. In line with his recent tour de farce type pics where he plays multiple roles, Murphy has a street edge to this wacky urban comedy. Painted with very road strokes, almost telling you where to laugh at times, this is pretty much light fare handled with the right touch that delivers the laughs. A sure bet if you want a nutty, good time.

MARTIN & LEWIS COLLECTION volume 2: No one can say Paramount hasn’t done right by Jerry Lewis. The third Lewis related box set, the second of his prime Martin & Lewis years, this collection might have some of the lesser efforts, but no expense was spared in making them most palatable. With the kind of remastering you’d expect to be saved for “Gone With the Wind”, these five comedies are as crisp and clear as you could want. There’s certainly a heavy nostalgia edge to these song/dance/comedy romps, but if you’ve ever eaten a French Fry, you might be smitten enough to catch the vibe.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE season 2: Why some tv shows get a full season and others don’t, who knows? MI fans will be happy that all of season two is here. With Jim Phelps getting in the smoking phone booth and going from there, these 24 episodes from the 1967 season are full of all the cold war gibberish that made us so fascinated with spies and secret agents back then. Nutty plots underscored with one of the best tv jazz scores ever, this is some of the most delightful espionage entertainment tv ever produced. All the production elements have been remixed and remastered and it just makes these classics that much more of a gasser. A real tv fan will want this in their permanent collection.
