OBLIQSOUND
TONOLO GOLDSTEIN SWALLOW MOTIAN/Your Songs-Music of Elton John: A jazz crew that knows their way around jazz rallies around a long time sideman for a program of jazz flavored John tracks staying away from too many obvious choices to explore the musicality of John’s works in a deeper jazz setting. Ostensibly a launch pad for Pietro Tonolo, a sax man that’s no stranger to the rest of the principles, these jazzbos use the Starbucks paradigm to get your attention, but if you know anything about contemporary jazz, they use their chops to keep you involved.  Tasty work for a high concept set.

TERRI HINTE PUBLIC RELATIONS
ALEXA WEBER MORALES/Vagabundeo: Multi lingual, multi culti jazz vocalist kicks it out a little farther and a little harder on her second outing.  Relying on herself for the bulk of the material but not forsaking her Latin roots and affinity for it’s key composers, Morales takes you on a sweet sonic tour of the equator that’s never less than dynamic in it’s presentation and execution.  Not content to linger in a port of call for too long, this is no discount excursion where you are forced to pack too much into too little.  Very much the kind of singer you want to hear more of, more often, Morales is on the money throughout with an adult jazz/world date that open eared adults will pass the word on quite easily and quickly.

DEMANIA: The new world/jazz visage for the trio of Alex deGrassi, Mike Manring and Chris Garcia might be new skin for the old ceremony, but long time listeners won’t be fooled.  Tasty, adult listening for those that still care about music and want something that doesn’t need to be hyped, particularly from some trusted names of their listening past.  This is simply a bunch of great cats having a fun time kicking out the jams, their style.  Don’t expect to be buried in new age vibe here as they touch on just about everything but that.

MEL BAY
ALEX DEGRASSI IN CONCERT: It’s deGrassi and his steel string reminding you why you dug him in the first place.  Going around the horn from jazz to new age to hokum to pop classics and more, this is a dandy showcase from one of the guitar greats of the times.  Whether you enjoy this with the pic on or not, it’s killer listening that’s just you and him and an hour of great playing.  A must for the acoustic guitar enthusiast.
