HEADS UP
SPYRO GYRA/Good to Go Go: More than 30 years on, Jay Breckenstein reinvents a touch, adds a pierced belly button babe to the cover, adds some edge to the smooth jazz and takes off for another go. Fun stuff that subtly takes you somewhere different and shows a lot more youth than such a vet crew might be expected to. Fun stuff and just right for summer listening.

BOOTS RANDOLPH/A Whole New Ballgame: Whew. Never thought we’d be hearing from Randolph again, and we never thought we’d be hearing him kicking it out jazz style. After providing the sax on a million country sides, we find him taking it easy on some hot jazz rather than sail off into the sunset. It’s not ground breaking, it’s just a fun set with a real pro that’s seen and heard it all.

ROBERT MACGREGOR/Refraction of Light: Young sax man that’s got a vison and a sound that’s soon to be exploding into something special. Already showing smarts as a leader with a crew that has some major miles under their belts, MacGregor knows how to blow a tasty lick and blow it from the heart. A nice debut that you should note.

THEO ROSS/Cut the Chord: Brit flutster knows how to ring the flute juice out of his ax nicely. With a bunch of nice chops on the ball, this ep whets the whistle for a bigger bite.
(Voice Waves)
TELARC
JIMMY THACKERY/Solid Ice: In which we find the results of a road warrior kicking back, taking it easy and making a personal album instead of spinning his wheels. It’s a different kind of set that runs on a different kind of octane but is no less compelling since this is a cat that really knows his stuff. Sometimes you just need to take a fun romp in a different direction to blow the carbs out of the exhaust before you get exhausted.

ROBERT DALLEK (read by Eric Conger)/Nixon & Kissinger: A respected historian takes a look back at an unlikely pairing in power that set that tone for the early 70’s and did their part to change the world. A certain must for history buffs that just can’t get their share of Presidential insider stuff.
ANTHONY DeSTEFANO/Ten Prayers God Always Says Yes To: Now that the dust from “The Secret” is starting to settle down, it’s time for other spiritual tomes to try to get their day in the sun. DeStafano goes back to basics and tells how to get in line with God to get what you want. How do you argue or analyze this stuff, it’s all in the spiritual realm. Still, there’s no downside to being positive and being spiritual. And if you do it right, it just might work.
