MICHAEL BLOOM MEDIA RELATIONS
STEVE KHAN/Borrowed Time: He might have that old time schmaltzy show biz in his blood, but it didn’t harden his arteries against being one of the leaders of 70’s fusion and staying in the lead ever since.  Going back to solo work after various successful band personas over the years, this time we find him kicking it out with the creme and everyone simply raising everyone else’s game.  He’s firmly back in the fusion pocket and whether tipping his cap to his Latin forays or plunging his foot back in fusion, he does not disappoint.  A hot set that never let’s up.

CHRISTINE CAPDEVILLE/Vision of Love: Well, if Bebel Gilberto was a Frenchy that had musical bloodlines without the infused royalty, you would get Capdeville.  A vocalist/songwriter with a deep love of all kinds of jazz, this debut finds her taking the listener around the horn of her interests and talents.  Not quite a cabaret set, it does have that foreigner view of jazz that combines wistfulness and passion into a stew that suckers in the gringos every time.  A most impressive first step and it certainly ain’t no baby step.

TWO FOR THE SHOW MEDIA
RICK PARKER COLLECTIVE/Finding Space:   Forget downtown, up and coming jazz is moving to Brooklyn.  This young, multi award winner shows us he thinks laurels are for collecting, not resting on as he continues to push forward with a sound that is going to stay in the underground only so much longer.  Still in that place where he’s a hipster’s darling, it’s only going to take a few tweaks and pushes for those outside the circle to notice.  He can only be the current trombone best kept secret for so much longer.  Spread the word.

UNIVERSAL MUSIC ENTERPRISES
MOTOWN REMIXED V. 2/various: It’s nice to take the classics and make them palatable to new and young ears and that’s what’s on tap here as another dose of Motown is shaken and stirred by young hands and young razor blades (even in this digital age).  Pulling from several Motown eras and giving things a Latin touch, it’s a whole new day and one can hear the future with Motown samples popping up in future Latin productions.  It’s classic urbanisity lends itself to the new urbanisity quite easily and handily.

DVD SUPPLEMENT
UNIVERSAL MUSIC ENTERPRISES
AMERICAN FOLK BLUES FESTIVAL British Tours 1963-66: It’s about time these well worn albums make their way to video; you knew someone had to have a camera rolling.  With the classic acts like Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson and other Chess mainstays leading the way, they tear the roof off the sucker, old skool verrrry old skool but they tear off the roof just the same.  Whether it’s Junior Wells or Rosetta Tharpe ripping it up, it’s a non-stop, rousing good time that never fails to deliver the goods to the classic blues fan.  This is how you pitch a wang dang doodle all night long!
