ROCK PAPER SCISSORS
JOSE CONDE y Ola Fresca/R-evolucion: One of those sets a gringo can discover and love.  A Chicagoan with Cuban roots that was transplanted to Miami as a kid, Conde has soaked up the sounds and mixmastered them like a pro.  With some Latin music guest stars that are stars in their own rights and a bright sound that gets the party started and keeps it rolling, this is high octane, fun music for any occasion.  It’s that kind of new music that makes you glad to have your ears open for new music.

SPEAKEASY PR
EARTHLESS/Rhythms from a Cosmic Sky: It’s underground supergroup time as a trio of major leaguers band together to follow their passion and lead the way for fellow travelers that have a need for some thunder thud space rock.  Head jams that go on and open the inner space found between the ears in dorm rooms in need of some freshening everywhere, the jam is on.  Not caring a whit for time and space, this power trio does their thing for amusement rather than profundity, and it’s all done right.

TWO FOR THE SHOE MEDIA
MORRIE LOUDEN/Time Piece: Muscular bass player that cut his teeth in jive show bands by acts any true jazzbo would revile (with the exception of Fifth Dimension who are fun) turns in a solo date that reflects who he is and what he feels and lets you know he is the real deal.  Probably making the acts he backed more palatable, Louden simply knows his stuff and has it going on.  This non-stop set has the ear marks of a classic.  Killer playing, smart leading and taste beyond belief, Loudon is on his own and well on his way.  A contemporary jazzbo must.

CROWS FEET PRODUCTIONS
PINETOP PERKINS STORY-Born in the Honey: If you’re a serious blues fan, this docu about the older than dirt blues man who was Muddy Waters sidekick and is still at it long after everyone else has checked out, is essential.  Where else are you going to get a first person account about the migration from the delta to the north and the explosion that ensued.  With I was there authenticity, he was the ignition spark for a lot of music that is the fiber of what we are about these days, even if you think you are far removed from post war urban blues.  With an accompanying cd, this is quite the multi media package that will make you quite the authority on an important cornerstone of our heritage.  And it’s fun to watch too.
