MICHAEL BLOOM MEDIA RELATIONS
JIMMY McINTOSH/Orleans to London: Oy, I can already hear Dave Marsh kvetching how we don’t need the record business. An affable journeyman guitar slinger with 25 years under his belt steps out of the shadows for his first turn as a leader which he makes for his own label. Who shows up to help out? The Neville Brothers and company, Ron Wood and Jeff Beck. You thought your parents went overboard for your bar mitzvah? On top of that Penn Jillette shows up to write lyrics. What is this? What’s going on here? 25 years ago this record would have been an out of control coke party but this record is a swinging, driving Nawlins based funk and rock set that really grooves. The mature cats running throughout it made it a sure bet for mature rock tastes, but be assured they will think it tastes good. One of those nutty things that flies under the radar that demands you pay attention.

DVD SUPPLEMENT
ROGERS & COWAN
JERRY LEE LEWIS/Last Man Standing Live: The cd came out last fall, now comes the dvd version of the PBS special. Personally, it seems like a sign of the apocalypse that The Killer is a proper subject for PBS but when the going get weird, the weird turn pro. The Killer and his gang of first call guest stars really shine with the camera and hot lights upon them. Expanding upon the cd, this set is completely off the hook and you have to wonder why Starbucks doesn’t have a hand in it since it will make the typical coffee swilling contemporary geriatric feel hip (if they don’t break one). You can play it on your laptop as a cd or enjoy the whole multimedia experience head on. Listen to the man when he bellows that he deserves a monument for a headstone.

PARAMOUNT HOME VIDEO
WILD WILD WEST season two: The real steampunks are back with another season of scifi adventures under the realm of President Grant. Even though it followed the format of the late 60’s one hour early evening dramatic shows, it was a trip all to itself that seemed to be put together by Republicans tripping on acid. The bad guys keep coming, Artie still is the master of disguise and Jim has to hold the whole thing together for the proto version of the Secret Service. Always a wild and wooly subversive show, don’t go thinking this is some corny 50’s western show. And I still say it’s more innovative than the movie that came years later.
JOAN OF ARCADIA season two: In what would turn out to be the final season, complete with abrupt ending that was created as a gateway tot eh unfilmed season three, the network tried to skew this to a younger audience halfway through the season but it wasn’t enough to save this critically acclaimed show from the scrap heap. While it should be against the law to cancel anything with Joe Mantegna in the lead, dvd will keep this lightly spiritual show in circulation forever, even better than syndication could. It’s a perfect example of solid family programming that has cross generational appeal.
