CROWS FEET PRODUCTIONS
KATHY PHILLIPS/Carries You Away: An Americana songstress with help from some alt.rockers, Phillips is one of those under the radar gems that you are glad to come across.  Delivering a tasty little date that’s right on the money whether kicking it out on originals or covers, Phillips has a quality that you wouldn’t expect from a Jersey girl that pulls you in with it’s heartland charm.  Sets like this certainly show that indie is the new alt.

THE ROUNDERS/Wish I Had You: Next generation blues band that purists will call a blues band in name only and new generation blues fans will take to heart.  As much indy rockers as Delta/Chicago manque, these kids grew up in the mixmaster, genre blender world of sampling and react accordingly.  And with chops like theirs, why should they overly revere the past when they can add so much to the future.  This crew comes out of the box strong and never lets up.  Check it out.

JAZZ PROMO SERVICES
NANNY ASSIS/Double Rainbow: A new Brazilian multi instrumentalist that has soaked up all the important Brazilian heritage music and mixmastered it into something new and special that feels like a link to the past.  With a wafting voice like Jobim and a world beat vibe that pulled from different periods, Assis comes in with that unexpected adult music treat that goes down easy.  With some stellar help rounding out the sound, Assis is someone you should get to know.

KARI ON PRODUCTIONS
JAN EISEN/Summer Me Winter Me: She sent me a box of candy with this and it was good candy.  The sugar high convinced me she’s a great jazz singer.  When I played it in the car the next day, I felt the same way.  Unoverdubbed set that finds her jazzing up a lot of show music, Eisen knows her art and presents it well.  It’s a sonically sharp date that is a nice throwback for those looking for a jazz thrust up front and present that knows how to belt them out.

LETTER FROM IWO JIMA/soundtrack: Clint keeps it in the family turning over the soundtrack chores to Kyle Eastwood who rises to the occasion of making dad proud in this from for the Oscar.  With a symphonic scope, Eastwood paints a vivid picture to go with the pic that could easily stand on it’s own.  A very serious work in the tradition of some of the best film scores.
